CEOL - Macedonian government resigns after presidential poll

SKOPJE, Dec 24, 1999 -- (Reuters) The Macedonian coalition government resigned Thursday following the inauguration of new president Boris Trajkovski, with outgoing Prime Minister Ljubco Georgievski handed him over his mandate, national radio reported.

"A total reshuffle of the government is to be expected," Georgievski said after a short cabinet meeting.

Within the existing government, the ruling Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organization - Democratic Party for Macedonian National Unity (VMRO-DPMNE) had 13 ministers, the Democratic Alternative (DA) eight and the Democratic Party for Albanians' (DPA) five.

The radio said a parliamentary session, during which a vote on the new government might take place, was expected Monday.
