Scientists demand punishment for Nato aggression

Moscow (Itar-Tass) - Russian sociologists and lawyers have appealed to the International Tribunal for Former Yugoslavia and U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan, demanding the prosecution of the initiators of the NATO aggression against Yugoslavia.

They said there is "convincing proof that NATO's thesis about the genocide against Kosovo Albanians by Yugoslav authorities is false, a thesis that used as the main justification for the North Atlantic Alliance's aggression."

In reality, genocide was launched against the entire population of Yugoslavia, but especially Kosovo Serbs, the scientists said in their appeal which was also signed by the director of the Institute of Sociological and Political Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Gennady Osipov.

NATO's intervention cannot be justified by humanitarians considerations because the aggression led to the dramatic escalation of violence and intensified the suffering of the civilian population, the scientists said.

They noted with regret that their previous appeal to the International Tribunal for Former Yugoslavia and the U.N. Secretary General sent on April 19, 1999 remained unanswered.
