American, EU flags burnt near US consulate

ST. PETERSBURG, December 17 (Itar-Tass) - The Anti-NATO Committee of St. Petersburg organized the public burning of the American and EU flags in front of the U.S. Consulate building on Friday.

The police did not prevent the action, since the rally organizers got the first ever official permission of the administration of St. Petersburg's central borough to the protest with flag burning.

About two dozens of college students came to the Consulate site for protesting against attempts of the American administration to interfere in Russia's internal affairs in Chechnya. They sharply criticized U.S President Bill Clinton.
