Nato will not intervene in North Caucasian events

TBILISI, December 20 (Itar-Tass) - "In my opinion, the North Atlantic Alliance will not intervene in the events in Chechnya. I rule out the possibility of NATO troops being sent to the Northern Caucasus," Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze told a briefing here on Monday.

He described as groundless the assertions of some Russian politicians that NATO could send troops to Chechnya. "I believe this is absolutely ruled out," the head of the Georgian state noted.
